MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and Minister of Culture Fadli Zon inaugurated two new exhibition areas of the Muhammadiyah Museum at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) on Monday, February. The Museum is part of an effort to preserve Muhammadiyah history and cultural contributions over the past 112 years.
Haedar expressed concern over people’s declining interest in museums, libraries, and bookstores compared to entertainment places. He urged younger generations to visit places that enrich knowledge and literacy.
“If we want to build a progressive nation, we need to engage with museums, libraries, and bookstores. Understanding our cultural and historical heritage helps shape Indonesia having religious values, ancestral traditions, and Pancasila, which can then be developed into a system of knowledge,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon praised the museum for effectively exhibiting Muhammadiyah journey and contributions.
“Muhammadiyah has played a crucial role in Indonesia for 112 years, contributing to politics, religion, education, social welfare, and healthcare. This museum tells its story from 1912 to the present, helping the public understand how Muhammadiyah has grown into one of the country’s largest organizations,” stated Fadli.
Fadli reaffirmed the government’s support for the museum as part of broader efforts to preserve cultural heritage.
“We fully support this initiative because maintaining museums, cultural sites, and historical legacies is part of our responsibility. Culture is more than just art. It encompasses ideas, systems, and traditions essential for society,” added Fadli.
The new exhibition areas are expected to become an educational resource and inspire greater appreciation for Muhammadiyah legacy while fostering historical and cultural awareness among future generations.
