MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir visited the headquarters of the Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah Special Branch (PCIM/PCIA) of Malaysia at Ruhama Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, on Monday, May 5.
During his visit, Haedar praised the spirit of independence shown by the PCIM and PCIA.
“Don’t aim for luxury or perfection. When you try to chase perfection, they often never get finished,” said Haedar.
Haedar encouraged members to focus on long-term development and meaningful action, beyond just physical infrastructure.
“PCIM and PCIA of Malaysia are among the most active branches, both in growing the organization and starting business initiatives,” he said.
What sets PCIM Malaysia apart is that most of its members are long-term Indonesian residents, unlike other overseas branches which are usually made up of students staying temporarily.
“Independence is part of Muhammadiyah identity,” emphasized Haedar.
Haedar highlighted that Muhammadiyah presence in Malaysia goes beyond formal structures, with initiatives like learning centers, a kindergarten, Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), and a small business such as Warung Soto Lamongan (Wasola).
Meanwhile, Chairperson of ‘Aisyiyah Siti Noordjannah Djohantini shared similar thoughts. She praised PCIM-PCIA commitment and saw it as a strong extension of Muhammadiyah mission abroad.
“We have high hopes for PCIM-A Malaysia, especially in its Islamic values and movement,” said Noordjannah.
She called on PCIA to grow alongside PCIM, noting that as a progressive women’s movement, ‘Aisyiyah should not play a secondary role. Noordjannah also encouraged PCIM and PCIA to expand into new areas and continue programs like the learning centers, while staying realistic about the organization’s capacity.
“We should reach out as best we can. Women and children in Malaysia need to feel the presence of our da’wah,” added Noordjannah.
Besides, Chairperson of PCIM of Malaysia Fauzi Fatkhur welcomed the visit and expressed gratitude. He proudly shared that the Ruhama building, where the event was held, was built through the independent efforts of the members of PCIM-PCIA of Malaysia.
“We managed to finish most of the work in just four days,” he said.
Fauzi hoped the visit from Muhammadiyah leaders would inspire and strengthen the unity and enthusiasm of Muhammadiyah members in Malaysia to continue making progress.
