Muhammadiyah Social Empowerment Program in East Kalimantan

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BERAU – The Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment (MPM), in collaboration with PT Penjamin Infrastruktur Indonesia (PII), has launched an empowerment program focused on social and religious activities in Baturajang Village, Berau, East Kalimantan.

The social and religious program involves the revitalization of the Al Hidayah Mosque’s facilities and infrastructure. This joint effort between MPM and PT PII aims to achieve multiple objectives. It seeks to improve the capacity of those who manage the mosque, promote inclusive social participation that revolves around the mosque, and create a welcoming space that serves the entire community.

Nurul Yamin, Chairperson of the MPM, explained the importance of the mosque revitalization project. By providing a more conducive environment, the project aims to ensure that the Muslims in Baturajang Village have easy access to perform their daily worship and participate in other social activities.

The program goes beyond simply serving the Muslims. Baturajang Village is predominantly populated by Christian Dayak Kenyah people. Recognizing this, the revitalized facilities, like the mosque courtyard, are designed for inclusive use by the entire community.

“This development project is not intended to divide people based on religion. On the contrary, it aims to create a shared space that fosters inclusivity and can be utilized by everyone,” said Yamin.

MPM plays a vital role in Muhammadiyah da’wa efforts. The council has a proven track record of implementing tangible programs that establish shared spaces. These spaces promote the development of values such as progress, social welfare, and socioeconomic development that benefits the entire community.

Meanwhile, President Director of PT PII Wahid Sutopo expressed his appreciation for this collaborative program, which falls under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. He recognized MPM as a strategic partner due to its extensive network.

Sutopo mentioned that PT. PII’s involvement extends beyond infrastructure development to encompass social and economic impact on Indonesian people, particularly those residing in the vicinity of infrastructure projects.

“PT. PII is not solely focused on supporting infrastructure development but is also committed to creating a positive economic and social impact on society,” said Wahid Sutopo.

Sutopo further highlighted that PT. PII’s CSR collaboration with MPM aligns with the company’s CSR program pillars. This sentiment was echoed by PT. PII’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team member, Muhammad Adib.
