MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has expressed strong support for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling that Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal. The ICJ has called on Israel to immediately withdraw from Palestinian lands.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir praised the ICJ decision, arguing that it accurately reflects the situation on the ground.
“Israel has continuously violated international law and committed countless atrocities against the Palestinian people, including the killing of thousands of innocent children and civilians. The ICJ ruling is a just and necessary step,” said Haedar on Tuesday (July 23) at Universitas Aisyiyah (UNISA) Yogyakarta.
Haedar emphasized that Israeli actions constitute genocide and have created a prolonged humanitarian crisis. He criticized the international community for its failure to take decisive action to end the conflict.
“The world has reached a stalemate when it comes to finding a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is a failure of the modern world, which has been unable to prevent such atrocities despite the lessons of World War II,” said Haedar.
The Muhammadiyah president called on the United Nations to take immediate action to stop the violence and find a just and lasting solution to the conflict.
“First, all acts of aggression must cease. Second, a new approach is needed to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Last, the international community must adopt a firm and consistent stance against illegal actions of Israel,” mentioned Haedar.
Haedar stressed that the conflict between Israel and Palestine is not about a religious issue but a matter of colonialism in the modern era. Muhammadiyah, he said, has a long history of supporting the Palestinian people and will continue to do so until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
