MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir applauded the Muhammadiyah Council for Environmental Preservation (MLH) for its significant achievement, the launch of the “1000 Cahaya” program.
Supported by Lazismu, the “1000 Cahaya” program exemplifies Muhammadiyah’s commitment to addressing energy transition issues and Indonesia’s mission to achieve net zero emissions.
“I extend my sincerest congratulations to the MLH PP Muhammadiyah today for taking such a positive initiative towards environmental protection. This program deserves serious consideration and consistent implementation moving forward. It truly embodies our best efforts as humans to safeguard the environment,” said Haedar virtually joining the launch on Monday, May 6 at the Muhammadiyah Office, Jakarta.
Haedar expressed his deep appreciation for the tangible action initiated by the MLH. These efforts can begin with waste reduction initiatives and environmental conservation programs. “The program’s focus on impactful environmental actions symbolized by light fundamentally reflects the spirit of environmental protection efforts,” he explained.
Haedar continued by highlighting the various environmental challenges we all face. He emphasized the need for solutions and actions to transition from a state of darkness to a brighter future. The sun, a star within our solar system created for Earth’s benefit, offers solar energy as a viable renewable energy alternative. Sunlight plays a vital role in photosynthesis for plants and sustains human activities.
“The Earth’s rotation and the moon’s presence, illuminated by the sun, symbolize the day-night cycle,” he added.
Referencing David Wallace’s book “The Uninhabitable Earth,” Haedar cautioned that the world is not simply experiencing global warming with consequences for humanity. The Earth’s rising temperatures and the broader effects of climate change pose a significant threat, potentially rendering our planet uninhabitable.
Therefore, Haedar urged everyone to start small. These collective actions can create a powerful wave of change. “Let’s care for the environment around us,” he implored. “Let’s protect our biodiversity and ecosystems to save the Earth, our only home.”
The “1000 Cahaya” program transcends its goals; it embodies a practical movement for environmental restoration and the well-being of our nation and people. After all, the environment is the foundation upon which all life thrives.
