MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MANADO – Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) of North Sulawesi has distributed aid to survivors of the Mount Ruang eruption in Manado on Friday (May 10), following the major eruption on April 30, 2024.
Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board (PWM) of North Sulawesi, Masrur Mustama, said that the provided aid was 500 packages.
“They consist of hygiene supplies and other daily necessities,” said Masrur.
The distribution of 500 aid packages was carried out in three shelters, namely the Sentra Tumoi Tou of Social Welfare Ministry of the Republic of Indonesia, the Manado Health Development Training Center, and the Education Quality Assurance Hall of North Sulawesi Province.
Masrur said that, since the beginning, Muhammadiyah through MDMC has deployed personnel to the affected locations with a focus on the initial assessment and providing emergency assistance.
“Since two days after the first eruption, we have sent a team to go directly to the location, collect data, and provide other basic assistance at that time,” he said.
As Muhammadiyah assistance in other places, this movement does not just come, provide assistance, and then leave. Instead, the assistance provided is sustainable and collaborative in nature.
“We have also collaborated with the North Sulawesi Provincial Government to carry out several disaster responses, such as trauma healing for the victims of the Mount Ruang eruption,” said Masrur.
Masrur explained that the assistance provided by Muhammadiyah to the survivors of the Mount Ruang eruption was the result of internal Muhammadiyah collaboration. All Muhammadiyah institutions work hand in hand to provide assistance.
