Nasyiatul Aisyiyah at 94: Reflecting on the Journey, Advancing the Mission

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Chairperson of Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurrohman called on the younger generation to draw inspiration from the Indonesian national heroes.

Speaking at the 94th Anniversary Ceremony of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah on Saturday, May 31, dr. Agus emphasized the importance of looking back at the past struggles of the heroes to guide the future. He encouraged members of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah to reflect on their long journey and think about how they can contribute even more going forward.

“As a progressive Islamic women’s movement, what more can Nasyiatul Aisyiyah do for the people and for the country we love?” he asked.

dr. Agus highlighted the nearly century-long commitment of Nasyiah and stressed the need for the same devotion to continue, including through greater involvement across different fields and global platforms. dr. Agus encouraged young Muslim women to step up and take on public roles that their presence and contributions are most needed.

“Don’t just shine in your comfort zone. As our seniors have reminded us, we should bring value wherever we go. You’ve been trained in Nasyiatul Aisyiyah, and now it’s time to step up and continue the legacy of our nation’s founders,” said dr. Agus.

dr. Agus also mentioned that the achievements of Muhammadiyah early leaders should not just be admired but carried forward. While today’s movement is still led by the current generation, the future depends on the young people.

dr. Agus stressed the importance of preparing strong young leaders who can carry on the mission of the organization. As Nasyiatul Aisyiyah marks its 94th year, he urged all members to uphold the values and dignity of Muhammadiyah wherever they are.

“We are a movement dedicated to upholding the spirit of Progressive Islam. Let’s continue to embody and express that through our commitment to promote moderation of Islam,” said dr. Agus.

dr. Agus also extended his message to other youth organizations under Muhammadiyah, such as Muhammadiyah Youth Association (Pemuda Muhammadiyah), Muhammadiyah Student Association (IPM), Tapak Suci, and Hizbul Wathan, encouraging all young cadres to remain active and committed to serving the nation and community.
