MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has demonstrated its commitment to education and youth development through the Sang Surya Scholarship program. Currently, the Sang Surya scholarships are awarded to 400 promising young individuals.
Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan highlighted the collaborative efforts between the council and the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management (Lazismu) in making the Sang Surya Scholarships possible. Through this program, we aim to address societal and community issues.
The selection process for the Sang Surya Scholarships was highly competitive, with thousands of applicants. To ensure equitable distribution, the scholarships were awarded to recipients from various regions across Indonesia, including remote areas and even those studying abroad.
“The scholarship recipients are from a diverse range of institutions, both Muhammadiyah and non-Muhammadiyah universities, in Indonesia and overseas,” said Bachtiar in the scholarship award ceremony at the Muhammadiyah office of Jakarta on Friday, September 20.
A notable aspect of the Sang Surya Scholarships is that while they are primarily intended for Muhammadiyah members, the program has also received applications from non-Muslim individuals. This offers new possibilities for Muhammadiyah to expand its outreach and contribute to a more inclusive society.
“The council’s programs are not limited to strengthening Islamic and Muhammadiyah ideology. We also focus on developing our members’ potential through education and preparing them for leadership roles in various sectors,” said Bachtiar.
Bachtiar expressed optimism about the future of the Sang Surya Scholarship program, assuring potential applicants that the organization is committed to providing educational opportunities for its members.
“We hope that this program will empower our young leaders and enable them to make significant contributions to society,” said Bachtiar.
