MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Tri Hastuti Nur Rochimah, the General Secretary of ‘Aisyiyah, underscored the persistent issue of child marriages in Indonesia during an interview on Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) on Tuesday (December 26). Tri emphasized the need for continual awareness and action to combat the significant challenges posed by early-age marriages.
Citing the inherent risks associated with child marriages, Tri identified three prominent issues: the heightened threat of maternal and child mortality, an increased incidence of domestic violence, and a surge in cases of stunting. The multifaceted impact of child marriages positions Indonesia with the highest rates of maternal and child mortality in Southeast Asia .
As Indonesia aims for the Golden Indonesia 2045, Tri stressed the gravity of addressing child marriages as a pivotal concern for the nation’s future. She articulated that this issue demands collective efforts beyond governmental initiatives, urging a collaborative approach involving all segments of society.
In light of the country’s impending centenary celebration in 2045, Tri asserted that the success of the nation lies in the well-being and prosperity of the coming generations. Achieving a golden generation and realizing the goals of the Golden Indonesia 2045 requires immediate and coordinated action.
“It is vital to initiate steps today to curb and prevent child marriages, envisioning a future where the centennial Independence Day celebration becomes a testament to the nation’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more equitable society,” said Tri.
