MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah, through the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (LHKI), hosted the first edition of the Ambassador Talks on Thursday, December 6. The event, themed Strengthening Indonesia-Malaysia Bilateral Cooperation for Humanity and the Independence of Palestine, aimed to reinforce collaboration between Muhammadiyah, the Indonesian government, and Malaysia in addressing humanitarian issues in Palestine.
Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue to tackle humanitarian crises in Palestine.
“Today, Muhammadiyah, together with the Indonesian government and the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia, is holding the Ambassador Talks to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. We hope this initiative will continue so we can collaborate, strategize, and find solutions to global humanitarian issues,” said Syafiq.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Syed Hasrin highlighted the severity of the situation in Palestine, calling for a united international effort to fight oppression and injustice.
“Palestine remains under occupation, and its people continue to suffer from oppression, violence, and human rights violations. Israel frequently escapes international accountability, and the global community should unite against these injustices,” he stated.
Besides, Senior Advisor to the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Muhsin Syihab described the crisis in Palestine as a “humanitarian tragedy.” He cited data showing that 59.8% of Gaza’s buildings have been destroyed and millions remain displaced.
“If we look at the data, it is clear that what is happening in Gaza is a humanitarian disaster,” said Muhsin.
Muhsin stressed the need for coordinated international policies and ongoing support for Palestine. He called for stronger cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia on a bilateral, regional, and multilateral level to promote peace.
“Indonesia and Malaysia should work together. Our collaboration should extend beyond bilateral relations to regional and multilateral efforts in supporting peace in Palestine. In times like these, we should remain committed to advocating for Palestinian rights and humanitarian relief,” he urged.
Ultimately, both Indonesia and Malaysia should remain steadfast in their commitment to the Palestinian cause. Syed Hasrin also emphasized the crucial role of dialogue and media in raising awareness and strengthening international solidarity.
