MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Chairman of Muhammadiyah’s Central Board, Syafiq Mughni, welcomed a courtesy visit from the Minister of Awqaf of the Syrian Arab Republic, Syeikh Dr. Moh. Abo Al-Kheir, at the Muhammadiyah Central Office in Jakarta on Thursday (30/10).
During the meeting, Minister Abo Al-Kheir expressed his admiration for Muhammadiyah’s long standing contributions to Islamic education, social welfare, and the promotion of moderate Islam. He affirmed that the new Syria aspires to be a nation of peace and compassion, committed to upholding the universal values of Islam as a rahmatan lil ‘alamin (a blessing for all creation).
He also emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between Syria and Indonesia, particularly in the fields of education, culture, and religion. The Minister extended an invitation for Muhammadiyah to send its best students to pursue higher education in Syria.
“The new Syria is an Arab nation that upholds Islamic values. We hope to become a beacon of Islamic civilization for the world,” he said.
The Syrian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdul Munim Anam, also expressed enthusiasm for broader collaboration with Muhammadiyah in the areas of education, culture, and economics, recognizing the organization’s significant role in those fields.
In response, Syafiq Mughni welcomed the proposal and stated that Muhammadiyah, through its Department of International Relations and Cooperation, will explore further opportunities to develop mutually beneficial partnerships for both nations.
The meeting marked an important milestone in strengthening ties between Syria and Indonesia, particularly in advancing Islamic education, promoting religious moderation, and fostering scholarly exchange between scholars of both countries. (Rosti)
