MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SORONG – A video of Leonard Madai, affectionately known as Amoye, has recently gone viral on social media. In the video, Amoye, dressed in his new university blazer, introduced himself enthusiastically.
Amoye, a graduate of SMA Negeri 1 Paniai Timur, has just been accepted as a new student at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Languages, and Sports Education, majoring in Indonesian Language at Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (UNIMUDA) Sorong.
In the viral video, Amoye shares his reason for choosing the education field.
“In my village, there are no teachers, so I decided to become one. That’s the reason,” he said, followed by cheers from his group.
Responding to the viral video, the Rector of UNIMUDA Sorong Rustamadji expressed his admiration for Amoye’s determination to pursue higher education. The rector mentioned that he had invited Amoye to meet him personally to commend him.
Amoye comes from Paniai Timur, Central Papua Province. To get to UNIMUDA Sorong, he had to go through a tough journey—first an eight-hour drive from Paniai to Nabire, and then a two-day, two-night boat trip to reach Sorong.
UNIMUDA Sorong has provided him with a full scholarship. “We granted Amoye a KIP scholarship, which covers his tuition and provides him with 4 million rupiah each semester for his living allowance,” said Rustamadji.
To further support Amoye’s studies, UNIMUDA has also provided him with a tablet and a laptop for his academic pursuits.
