Uruguay an Muhammadiyah Explore Partnerships in Agriculture and Sustainable Development

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah welcomed the Ambassador of Uruguay to Indonesia, Cristina Gonzalez at the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Jakarta on Tuesday, July 1. Her visit opened up opportunities for collaboration in agriculture, food security, business, and sustainable economic development.

Ambassador Gonzalez was received by Muhammadiyah Chairperson of International Relations and Cooperation Syafiq Mughni, Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Department of  International Cooperation Yayah Khisbiyah, and Deputy Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Department of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Syafrudin Anhar.

Syafrudin said the visit was a valuable moment for Muhammadiyah to expand its international cooperation in various sectors.

“As a respected nation, Uruguay recognizes Muhammadiyah’s strong influence in Indonesia. Our discussion today focused on agriculture, food security, and trade to build a sustainable economic partnership,” explained Syafrudin.

Syafrudin added that Uruguay expressed interest in working with Muhammadiyah to develop and distribute agricultural and livestock products. The partnership could also open opportunities for export through Muhammadiyah network of entrepreneurs and members.

“We hope this visit will lead to practical business cooperation, and we’re looking forward to possibly visiting Uruguay in return to explore potential partnerships directly,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Gonzalez stated that her first visit aimed to build stronger relations and introduce Uruguay as a trusted partner, especially in supporting national programs like President Prabowo Subianto’s Free Nutritious Meals initiative.

“Uruguay is one of the world’s major producers of sustainable food. We understand Muhammadiyah plays a key role in Indonesia, so we are eager to begin collaboration and explore future opportunities together,” said Ambassador Gonzales.

Ambassador Gonzales also expressed admiration for Muhammadiyah’s extensive contributions across sectors in Indonesia.

“I find Muhammadiyah very impressive because of its crucial role in many areas of Indonesian society. I hope to learn more and build a long-term partnership,” added Ambassador Gonzales.
