MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, GRESIK – SD Muhammadiyah 2 Gresik Kota Baru (GKB) has found a creative way to encourage students to eat healthier by transforming bok choy or pak choi, a Chinese cabbage, into a tasty and nutritious ice cream.
The school principal, Farikha, explained that this innovation aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance of consuming vegetables while supporting government efforts to improve children’s nutrition.
“We want children to enjoy healthy food in a fun way. Hopefully, this activity encourages them to eat more vegetables,” said Farikha on Friday, January 3.
The bok choy used in the ice cream comes from the school’s hydroponic garden. While the vegetable was initially served in traditional dishes, it didn’t appeal to most students.
To address this, the school teachers came up with the idea of making ice cream out of bok choy. The innovation has made the vegetable more enjoyable for the children. It becomes part of the school’s effort to promote healthy habits early on.
Reirosailah Roxanne, a 12-year-old student, shared her excitement after tasting the ice cream. “It’s really delicious, and you can’t even taste the vegetable,” she said.
Another student, 11-year-old Intan Lailatul Farihah, also enjoyed the unique treat, proving the success of this fun and healthy innovation.
