MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TURKEY — The Indonesian Emergency Medical Team (INA-EMT) engaged members of the Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah Special Branch of Turkey to be interpreters at emergency field hospitals.
Deputy Chief of the INA-EMT, dr. Corona Rintawan mentioned that few Indonesian volunteers in Turkey spoke Turkish, so interpreters were urgent to accelerate and ease health services.
“We got two patients on day one, nine patients on day two, 119 patients on day three, and 146 patients on day four. The number significantly increased. The total till today is 276 patients coming to our emergency field hospitals,” dr. Corona Rintawan said on Monday (20/2).
Emergency field hospitals used 30 tents, and 18 of the tents belonged to the EMT Muhammadiyah under the coordination of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) supported by Lazismu (the Muhammadiyah zakat management body) and the Muhammadiyah Council for Public Health.
“Since the number of patients lift, thirteen interpreters are not enough to standby 24/7. Thus, we add ten interpreters who are members of the Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah Special Branch of Turkey,” said dr. Corona Rintawan.
Besides, a 4.2-magnitude aftershock with a depth of 6.7 kilometers occurred 13-kilometer far from the emergency field hospitals. Indeed, the temperature was about -4°C to 10°C.
Electrical power in the hospitals was from a generator. There were thirteen generators. Three of them belonged to the EMT Muhammadiyah, but one of the three generators did not work due to excess capacity.
