MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment (MPM) collaborated with PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (PII) to empower people in the frontier, outermost and remote (3T) regions.
Chief of the MPM M. Nurul Yamien mentioned the MPM is now focusing on community empowerment programs in the 3T regions, namely Timor Tengah Selatan Regency-Nusa Tenggara Timur, the Kokoda Tribe in Sorong-West Papua, and the Dayak Tribe in Berau.
Then, in the meeting, they planned to perform community empowerment in five locations, namely Nusa Tenggara Timur, Papua, Sumatera Barat, Kalimantan Timur, and several cities in Java.
“The MPP has previously conducted community empowerment programs in those areas,” said Nurul Yamien at the meeting with delegates of PT PII at the Muhammadiyah Office of Yogyakarta on Thursday (16/2).
The programs in Nusa Tenggara Timur would deal with sanitation and educational facilities. Yamien said a water source had been found, but the community needed help accessing it.
Besides, programs in the Kokoda Tribe, Papua would be regarding environmental health and education, while the MPM would concern with religious programs and non-timber forest-agriculture in Berau, and programs for fishermen in Pekalongan. The MPM is still waiting for the assessment results for programs in Sumatera Barat.
The MPM welcomed the collaboration with stakeholders of state and private institutions since it may expand Muhammadiyah programs and the benefits to society. Indeed, the programs will run in 2023.
