INCEIF University, Malaysia Invites Muhammadiyah to Promote Islamic Finance

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Chairman of Muhammadiyah Anwar Abbas, together with the Vice Treasurer of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development Mahfud Sholihin, and the Vice Chairman of the International Relations and Cooperation Office of Muhammadiyah Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, welcomed a visit from the Deputy President Operations of INCEIF University Malaysia Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim at the Muhammadiyah Office of Jakarta on Tuesday (16/5).

INCEIF was established by Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia) in 2005 to develop and nurture talent and experts in the Islamic financial services industry..

Located in Kuala Lumpur, INCEIF is recognized as a university focusing on Islamic finance. It is part of the MIFC initiative to promote Islamic finance studies for both domestic and international financial communities.

Following the meeting, Mahfud Sholihin stated that Muhammadiyah accepted INCEIF University’s proposal to collaborate.

“We enthusiastically accept the offer of collaboration because it fts with values of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development. For example, we hope to send 5,000 doctoral students, publish 100,000 books, and improve the curriculum of Islamic Economics and Finance by integrating Islamic studies with science and technology. This partnership spans finance and economics,” said Mahfud.

Although the collaboration’s focus is intended to be on cooperative education and joint research, Mahfud said it would include practical, field-based projects targeted at discovering the best answers to current issues.

“I believe this partnership is highly relevant to Muhammadiyah. The philosophy of Al-Maun is to empower underprivileged communities, so it will bring significant benefits not only to education but also to future community service initiatives,” said Mahfud.

Meanwhile, the Deputy President Operations of INCEIF University Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim said that Muhammadiyah’s great reputation in higher education serves as the foundation for the visit and collaboration plan.

The areas of collaboration include education and research, particularly in the development of Islamic finance and economics, and student and faculty exchange programs.

Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim hoped that collaboration with Muhammadiyah higher education institutions could be initiated in the near future.

“Our primary purpose in visiting Muhammadiyah is to establish collaboration and explore partnership areas, particularly economics and Islamic finance, which aligns with our vision. Muhammadiyah has the potential to contribute to the development of Islamic finance and economics in Indonesia and worldwide,” said Muhammad Syahmi Mohd Karim.

Furthermore, the Vice Chairman of the International Relations and Cooperation Office of Muhammadiyah Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim welcomed INCEIF’s intention to promote Islamic economics globally. It aligns with Muhammadiyah’s vision of internationalization, as established at the 47th Congress (Muktamar) in Makassar in 2015.

“This is one of many steps of Muhammadiyah to internationally perform da’wa. Our approach of the da’wa is diverse, including employing modern methods such as the development of higher education. This collaboration will bring significant benefits not only to Muhammadiyah but also to both Indonesia and Malaysia. Indeed, This collaboration becomes vital since the world is now confronting complex issues,” said Abdul Hakim.

“Therefore, this partnership enables both parties to coin answers to international issues and challenges and two countries to play more roles globally,” said Abdul Hakim.
