Muhammadiyah Commits to Empowering Indonesian Migrant Workers

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KEBUMEN – Muhammadiyah commits to empowering laborers, particularly migrant workers.

“Labor empowerment is an integral part of Muhammadiyah’s mission, known as da’wa, which aims to spread mercy and compassion to the whole world,” said Chair of the Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment M. Yurul Yamin at the public seminar on ‘Building Capacity and Local Government Support in Empowering Indonesian Migrant Workers’ at Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong on Saturday (10/6).

Effective resolution of issues faced by Indonesian migrant workers necessitates strong collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Agency for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI).

Besides, it is essential to raise public awareness that becoming migrant workers is required to prepare for several aspects such as legal documents, cultural understanding, and skills. Thus, a collaboration of all elements, including stakeholders, is crucial.

Furthermore, addressing one of the critical issues concerning Indonesian migrant workers, Regent Arif Sugiyanto highlighted the prevalence of illegal employment. Therefore, the seminar would be fruitful and link them to stakeholders and the next generations.

Arif emphasized the importance of this seminar, as it aims to raise awareness among Indonesians and foster a lawful approach to employment, rather than resorting to illegal means due to urgent job needs.
