MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – In a move signaling its commitment to modernization and ongoing social impact, Muhammadiyah has launched Comma (Collaborative Muhammadiyah), a digital crowdfunding platform aimed at bolstering its social welfare initiatives.
“Muhammadiyah, over a century old and fresh off its 111th anniversary, must embrace novel approaches in serving its communities,” declared Agus Taufiqurrahman, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah. “Comma represents a vital leap forward in this direction.”
Taufiqurrahman drew inspiration from Muhammadiyah’s pioneering spirit, citing the organization’s founder, Kiai Ahmad Dahlan, who established three key councils in its early days: Tabligh for religious outreach, Taman Pustaka for literacy advancement, and PKO (Penolong Kesengsaraan Oemoem) for social welfare.
“The PKO, led by the legendary Kiai Sudja, wasn’t afraid to roll up its sleeves,” Taufiqurrahman recounted. “In 1919, when Mount Kelud erupted, PKO volunteers, known as Laskar Kiai Sudja, were on the frontlines, driven by the Al-Maun spirit of mutual help. Now, a century later, MPKS, our Social Welfare Development Council, is tasked with carrying that torch of innovation.”
Comma, accessible through commafund.id, offers a digital platform for Muhammadiyah’s social projects to garner wider public support. “This isn’t just about fundraising,” clarified Taufiqurrahman. “It’s about deepening societal understanding of Muhammadiyah’s identity and actions.”
He pointed to the organization’s unique role in Indonesian society. “For many, delving into Muhammadiyah leads to a newfound appreciation for both Indonesia and Islam,” he explained. “Muhammadiyah strives to be an Islamic movement that also empowers Indonesia as Darul Ahdi was Syahadah, a country of unity and progress. Comma allows us to amplify this message and impact on a larger scale.”
The launch of Comma marks a new chapter for Muhammadiyah’s social outreach efforts. Its user-friendly interface and focus on transparency aim to attract donors and foster deeper engagement with the organization’s work. With this step into the digital era, Muhammadiyah stands poised to expand its reach and impact, leaving a lasting mark on the social landscape of Indonesia and beyond.
