MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Diyah Puspitarini, Secretary of ‘Aisyiyah, highlighted the alarming rise in violence against women in Indonesia.
Citing data from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Diyah revealed that in 2021, there were 8,803 cases of violence against women, with 8,912 female victims. Physical and psychological violence were the most common forms of violence experienced by adult women, and the majority of cases occurred within the household, constituting domestic violence.
In response to this growing problem, ‘Aisyiyah has developed a program called “Strengthening Family Resilience based on the Sakinah Family with the Qoryah Toyyibah Movement.”
“This program aims not only to address problems within the family, but also to address issues that occur in society, so that it is hoped that the community can become empowered,” Diyah explained at the Muhammadiyah Ramadan Preaching Series at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta on Saturday (March 16).
The Qoryah Toyyibah movement has five pillars for fostering the Sakinah Family: spiritual development, education, economic empowerment, health and environmental management, and social development.
“The principle is that the family is the main home in building civilization,” Diyah emphasized.
In addition to strengthening families, ‘Aisyiyah is also committed to improving the economic status of women in Indonesia through its BUEKA program (Bina Usaha Ekonomi Keluarga ‘Aisyiyah).
“As a movement for economic empowerment of the community, the BUEKA program aims to foster entrepreneurial spirit through the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” explained Diyah.
The BUEKA program is community-based. ‘Aisyiyah in each region or village provides guidance to local women to maximize their potential.
“In this effort, ‘Aisyiyah assists them in developing their insights, creativity, problem solving skills, and innovation, all of which result in economically viable products. ‘Aisyiyah also guides them in understanding the economic map from upstream to downstream and facilitates capital from the ‘Aisyiyah Cooperative,” said Diyah.
