MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has been supporting Palestine. The Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Religious Preaching Fathurrahman Kamal highlighted the organization’s historical involvement in supporting Palestinian independence.
In 1970, Abdul Kahar Muzakkir, a Muhammadiyah figure, represented Indonesia at a global Islamic scholars’ conference in Egypt, advocating for Palestinian freedom.
“Muhammadiyah has been at the forefront of supporting Palestinian independence since the very beginning. While we may not have been able to engage in direct jihad, our prayers and official statements have always been dedicated to the Palestinian cause,” said Fathurrahman Kamal in the ceremony of aid handover for Palestians on Friday, October 25.
The donation of IDR 1 billion presented to Dr. Bilal and Sheikh Abdurrahman, Palestinian representatives, marked the third significant contribution from the Council.
“The first donation of IDR 1 billion was made at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and the second one was IDR 2 billion handed over in a meeting in Jakarta,” mentioned Fathurrahman.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairperson of the council Adi Hidayat spoke about the strong connection between Muhammadiyah and the Palestinian cause. “
“Palestine has always been close to Muhammadiyah heart, rooted in our shared struggle and the values symbolized by the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said. Adi emphasized that this connection is not new, adding, “We’ve supported Palestine from the start, through both our prayers and our actions.”
Adi Hidayat further highlighted the role of the Council in advocating for Islamic values and promoting peace globally. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Bilal and Sheikh Abdurrahman for their contributions to Islamic education in Indonesia.
