MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MEDAN – Attending the Socialization od the Housing Credit Program for the Acceleration of Public Housing Realization at the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU), Indonesia’s Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, expressed his admiration for Muhammadiyah’s significant contributions to the development of education and health sectors in Indonesia.
“Muhammadiyah has greatly supported the government and the nation in the fields of education and health. I am impressed by the quality, leadership, and management of Muhammadiyah. This has been proven across Indonesia, where part of the state’s responsibilities in these sectors have been successfully carried out by Muhammadiyah,” Said Ara (Maruarar Sirait’s nickname) on Wednesday (8/10).
Ara further praised Muhammadiyah as a “kawah candradimuka” (crucible of excellence) that has produced many intellectuals, entrepreneurs, and national figures. He noted that this strength can serve as a powerful inspiration for generating through ideas, particularly in the housing sector.
“This is very important because ideas are valuable for creating breakthroughs and opportunities. In the bureaucracy, besides obeying regulations, we must also be capable and brave enough to think proactively, so that these ideas can be turned into regulations and workable schemes,” he explained.
He emphasized that current challenges are not only about housing quotas but also about ensuring quality implementation and absorption. Ara expressed hope that universities, especially UMSU, and Muhammadiyah’s nationwide network can continue contributing innovative and sustainable solutions for public housing.
“I am confident Muhammaidyah can play a major role in this sector. Universities are institutions capable of generating big ideas and visions that are in line with the people’s interests,” Ara said.
Meanwhile, UMSU Rector Agussani welcomed the Minister’s presentation on the Housing KUR Program and the Subsidized Housing Program, expressing hope that the initiative would bring tangible benefits to both the community and the academic community of UMSU.
“We have approximately 21,000 students and 815 lecturers. Hopefully, this will bring real benefits to society, especially to the UMSU academic community,” Agussani stated.
With this spirit of collaboration, the government and Muhammadiyah are expected to work hand in hand to accelerate public housing development through innovative, structured schemes that genuinely address community needs. (Bintang Adrian)
