EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MANCHESTER – Muhammadiyah Special Branch Board in the United Kingdom and Ireland (PCIM UK and Ireland) met with the Manchester United Muslim Supporters’ Club (MUMSC), an official Muslim supporters’ club, at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester on Saturday (10/10).
The meeting coincided with Manchester United’s home match against Tottenham Hotspur FC, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ince Dian Aprilyani Azir, Chairperson of PCIM UK and Ireland, was warmly welcomed by MUMSC Chair Asif Mahmud. She was accompanied by Farisah Amanda, secretary of its Library, Information, and Communication Council. They were also joined by four other Muhammadiyah members living in the United Kingdom.
“MUMSC was officially recognized by Manchester United in August 2024 as the first Muslim supporters’ club in its global network. The community brings together Muslim Manchester United fans from different countries and actively organizes religious and social activities. These includes iftar gatherings at Old Trafford and winter jacket donation for people in need,” Ince explained.
PCIM representatives were also invited to see the Multi-Faith Room within the stadium complex, established with support from MUMSC. The room is open to people of all faiths. It also provides Muslim supporters with a place to perform their prayers on match days.
“We received a warm welcome. It was inspiring to see a space for worship at one of the world’s most famous football stadiums. This shows how Muslim communities can make positive contributions to public life in the United Kingdom,” Ince added.
Meanwhile, Farisah, secretary of PCIM UK and Ireland’s Library, Information, and Communication Council, highlighted how communities like MUMSC can strengthen meaningful social connections, both locally and across global networks. As a student with a background in Islamic economics, she also noted that such solidarity provides important foundations for collaboration and community empowerment.
Exploring Future Social Collaboration
The meeting formed part of PCIM UK and Ireland’s efforts to strengthen ties with local Muslim communities in the United Kingdom. During the discussion, both parties explored opportunities for future collaboration, particularly in social initiatives.
PCIM UK and Ireland plans to develop joining programs with MUMSC. However, the proposed collaboration remains in the planning stage, with activities expected to take place at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
“We are working to encourage Indonesian communities and people around the world to strengthen unity among religious communities. Football is not only a sport but also one of the world’s most popular pursuits and an important part of public life. Through various approaches, we are working to advance this mission,” Ince said in her closing remarks. (Bhisma)
