EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – During its three-month trial period, ChatHPT received around 13,000 questions. Just one day after its official launch, however, the number had surged to 50,000.
The figures were disclosed by Ismail Fahmi, Vice Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Board’s Publication and Information Council (MPI), in a statement posted on his Facebook account on Friday (6/11).
“This means that from the time ChatHPT was officially launched by the President of the Muhammadiyah Central Board at the Tarjih National Conference on Thursday, November 5, 2026, until Friday afternoon, November 6, users had submitted around 37,000 new questions. In roughly one day, that figure was almost three times the total number of questions received since the trial began last August.” Ismail explained.
ChatHPT is an AI assistant that helps users explore Muhammadiyah’s Tarjih scholarship, including the Himpunan Putusan Tarjih (Compilation of Tarjih Decisions), Tarjih fatwas, and religious Q&A materials. The service is available at hpt.muhammadiyah.or.id and through the MASA super app, using a Muhammadiyah ID login.
Thousands of AI Calls in Two Days
Ismail further explained that the most significant surge was recorded in the number of calls made to the AI model. On launch day, the system logged 97,418 calls. The following day, the figure climbed to 137,067 before the 24-hour period on Friday had ended.
According to Ismail, a single question typically triggers several calls. The reason is because the system must search through manuscripts, retrieve relevant sources, before formulating an answer. The total number of calls over the two days reached 234,485.
Meanwhile, 14,165 Muhammadiyah ID accounts were recorded as having logged into ChatHPT. Of these, 13,871 accounts, or 97.9 percent, had submitted questions. The breakdown was as follows: 11,851 accounts (83.7 percent) were at Level 1, 1,632 (11.5 percent) at Level 2, and 682 (4.8 percent) at Level 3.
“These findings are interesting. More than eight out of ten users are Level 1 accounts. It means, they are individuals who are not yet registered members of the Muhammadiyah organization. Level 2 and Level 3 members account for 2,314 users, or 16.3 percent,” he said.
In other words, ChatHPT has reached far beyond Muhammadiyah’s existing membership. For many users, the service serves as a first point of contact with the organization’s approach to understanding religious issues, while also creating an opportunity to invite them to become official members.
