A Collection of Daily Prayers

Many Collections of daily prayers circulate among Muslim communities. They often draw from different sources and references. For that reason, it is important for Muslims to know prayers that rest on clear foundations and remain consistent with Islamic teachings. 

Prayer, or dua, is an act of worship and an expression of devotion to Allah. The following collection includes prayers for everyday activities and circumstances, from waking up and getting dressed to eating, traveling, and facing illness, sadness, anger, or hardship. 

Prayer upon Waking Up

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِيْ أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُوْرِ

Meaning : “All praise is due to Allah, who has given us life after causing us to sleep, and to Him we will be resurrected.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud and Ahmad)

Prayer When Putting on Clothes

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Meaning: “All praise is due to Allah, who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me without any power or strength of my own.” (Narrated by Ashabus Sunan, except An-Nasa’i)

Prayer When Wearing New Clothes

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ أَنْتَ كَسَوْتَنِيهِ، أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهِ وَخَيْرِ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَهُ

Meaning: “O Allah, all praise belongs to You. You have clothed me with this garment. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its harm and the harm for which it was made.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidzi, and Al-Baghawi)

Prayer for Someone Wearing New Clothes

اِلْبَسْ جَدِيْدًا، وَعِشْ حَمِيْدًا، وَمُتْ شَهِيْدًا

Meaning: “Wear new clothes, live a praiseworthy life, and die as a martyr.” (Narrated by Ibnu Majah and Al-Baghawi)

Prayer before Entering the Bathroom

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil male and female devils.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Prayer upon Leaving the Bathroom 

غُفْرَانَكَ

Meaning: “I seek Your forgiveness.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, Ibnu Majah and Ahmad)

Prayer upon Leaving Home

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

Meaning: “In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no power and no strength except through Allah.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidzi)

Prayer upon Entering the Home

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الْمَوْلَجِ وَخَيْرَ الْمَخْرَجِ، بِسْمِ اللهِ وَلَجْنَا، وَبِسْمِ اللهِ خَرَجْنَا، وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا، ثُمَّ لِيُسَلِّمْ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ

Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for the best entrance and the best exit. In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave. Upon our Lord we place our trust.” Then, one should greet the members of the household with salam. (Narrated by Abu Dawud)

Prayer when Leaving for the Mosque

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَسَارِي نُورًا، وَفَوْقِي نُورًا، وَتَحْتِي نُورًا، وَأَمَامِي نُورًا، وَخَلْفِي نُورًا، وَعَظِّمْ لِي نُورًا

Meaning: “O Allah, place light in my heart, in my sight, and in my hearing; place light to my right and to my left, above me and below me, before me and behind me; and increase my light.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Prayer when Entering the Mosque

 بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي، وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Meaning: “In the name of Allah. Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O, Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the gates of Your mercy.” (Narrated by Ibnu Majah)

Prayer When Leaving the Mosque

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty.” (Narrated by Muslim)

Prayer in Times of Anxiety and Sorrow

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, cowardice and miserliness, the burden of debt and being overpowered by others.” (Narrated by Bukhari)

Prayer for Protection From Shirk

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ

Meaning: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating anything with You, and I ask Your forgiveness for what I do not know.” (Narrated by Ahmad)

The Prayer of Prophet Yunus in Times of Difficulty

لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Meaning: “There is no god worthy of worship except You. Glory be to You. Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.” (Quran, Al-Anbiya [21]: 87; narrated by At-Tirmidhi)

Prayer for Someone Who Is Ill

لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Meaning: “Do not worry. God willing, this illness will cleanse you of your sins.” (Narrated by Bukhari)

 Prayer When Afflicted by a Calamity

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

Meaning: “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.” (Narrated by Muslim)

Prayer Upon Hearing Thunder

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي يُسَبِّحُ الرَّعْدُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ مِنْ خِيفَتِهِ

Meaning: “Glory be to the One whom thunder glorifies with His praise, as do the angels out of awe of Him.” (Reported by Imam Malik in Al-Muwaṭṭa’ from ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubair)

Prayer when Rain Falls

اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Meaning: “O, Allah, grant us beneficial rain.” (Narrated by Bukhari)

Prayer when Traveling

اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ. سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا، وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ, اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هٰذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَىٰ, اللّٰهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هٰذَا، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ. اللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ. اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْظَرِ، وَسُوءِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ.

Meaning: “Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. Glory be to Him who has made this means of travel subject to us, though we could never have controlled it by ourselves. Indeed, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You during this journey for righteousness, piety and deeds that please You; O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance; O Allah, You are our Companion on the journey and the Guardian of the family we leave behind; O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, distressing sights and an unhappy return concerning wealth and family.”

When returning from a journey, add: 

آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ

Meaning: “We return, we repent, we worship, and we praise our Lord.” (Narrated  by Muslim)

Prayer Before Eating

The Prophet Muhammad said that when one begins to eat, one should say: 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Meaning: “In the name of Allah.”

If one forgets to say it at the beginning, one should say: 

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ

Meaning: “In the name of Allah, at its beginning and at its end.” (Narrated Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidzi)

Prayer After Eating

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Meaning: “All praise is due to Allah, who has fed me this food and provided it for me without any power or strength of my own.” (Narrated by At-Tirmidzi)

Prayer when Angry

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Meaning: “I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

Prayer when Sneezing

Rasulullah said that when someone sneezes, they should say: 

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Meaning: “All praise is due to Allah.”

Those who hear the sneeze should respond:

يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ

Meaning: “May Allah have mercy on you.”

The person who sneezed then replies:

يَهْدِيكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَكُمْ

Meaning: “May Allah guide you and improve your condition.” (Narrated by Bukhari)

Prayer when Breaking the Fast

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ، وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

Meaning: “The thirst has gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is assured, God willing.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
