MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BANTUL – The other rarely spoken teaching of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan is Pengajian Wal ‘ashri (the Preaching of Wal ‘ashri). The preaching was longer than ‘The Reciting of Al-Ma’un). Chairman of Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman mentioned that, to teach wal ‘ashri, Ahmad Dahlan applied the same method as he used to teach Al-Ma’un. He taught Al-Ma’un for three months and wal ‘ashri for eight months.
“Thus, a history calls Ahmad Dahlan Kiai wal ‘ashri. He went many places to teach wal ‘ashri,” said dr. Agus, who is also a neurologist.
Quoting Imam Syafi’i, if Allah didn’t reveal other surahs of Al-Qur’an, Al-Ashr was more than enough to guide Muslim life.
The surah, consisting of three verses, was taught by Ahmad Dahlan for eight months. He always emphasized utilizing time wisely.
“Indeed, he told his students to use time to perform good deeds, so they would not be messed up because of showing off and having too much fun. They were taught to be patient to run their lives,” dr. Agus said.
Furthermore, Dahlan’s students complained during their Al-Ma’un learning, but no one did it when Dahlan taught Al-Ashr.
According to dr. Agus, the most significant difference from the teaching method is Dahlan’s egalitarianism and taught verses were not merely memorized nor understood but became the spirit of good deeds.
