Bangsamoro Delegation Inspired by Muhammadiyah’s Voluntary Movement and Social Services

EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – A delegation of 11 members of the Parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), southern Philippines, visited the Muhammadiyah Central Board’s office in Jakarta on Monday (2/11) to learn about the organization’s experience and contributions to community services.

Yayah Khisbiyah, secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Board’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, welcomed the delegation.

In addition to the Central Board, the delegation visited several Muhammadiyah social enterprises, including Jakarta Islamic Hospital (RSIJ) in Cempaka Putih, to observe firsthand Muhammadiyah’s work in healthcare and social services.

During the meeting, Yayah outlined the roles of Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah in driving social transformation through education, healthcare, humanitarian services, and volunteer initiatives.

“Muhammadiyah cadres contribute their financial resources, energy, ideas, and time to improving communities,” Yayah said.

She also explained Muhammadiyah’s involvement in the International Contact Group (ICG) since the early 2000s, supporting the peace process in Bangsamoro, southern Philippines, which culminated in the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in 2014.

Meanwhile, delegation leader Jehan Diron Alangca-Madid praised Muhammadiyah’s contribution to social services, healthcare, and education.

“Muhammadiyah’s remarkable contributions to social services, healthcare, and education, inspired us deeply,” she said.

Jehan particularly highlighted the spirit of volunteerism among Muhammadiyah members, which she regarded as a key strength in serving communities.

“What interests me most is the spirit of volunteerism among Muhammadiyah members in serving the community,” she remarked.

She was hoping for future meetings and collaborative initiatives to develop the cooperation between Muhammadiyah and Bangsamoro.

In response, Yayah welcomed the possibility of reciprocal visits and exchanges of experience between Muhammadiyah and Bangsamoro as opportunities for mutual learning.

“We learn from one another because we are part of the same family and are united by our shared humanity,” she concluded. (Taufik)
