EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah has prepared several strategic topics for discussion at the upcoming Muhammadiyah Tanwir, scheduled for November 13–15, 2026, in Palu, Central Sulawesi.
Preparations include developing three main agenda: formulating the Treatise of Universality, discussing amendments to the Statute and Bylaws of Muhammadiyah, and drafting the organization’s long-term work program for the next 20 years.
The Central Board of Muhammadiyah Chairperson Agung Danarto explained that the three topics had been discussed during a plenary meeting of the Central Board as part of preparations for the Tanwir.
The Treatise of Universality, he said, was conceived to establish a theological foundation for responding to various global issues. It would help articulating the role of Muslims in addressing global challenges
“This also includes the role Muslims can play in responding to the problems facing the world today, or what we call universal issues,” Agung said on Friday (30/10).
The second agenda item will focus on Muhammadiyah Statute and Bylaws, which may undergo several amendments.
The third topic concerns the development of Muhammadiyah’s long-term work program. Agung said this needs to be addressed promptly, as the organization’s current long-term program is set to conclude this year.
“This means we need to develop a second long-term program. Our long-term work program will cover the next 20 years,” he explained.
The Rules of National Congress and Muhammadiyah’s Internationalization
In addition to the three main topics, the Muhammadiyah Central Board will soon approve the rules governing the election of the Central Board at the 2027 Muktamar National Congress.
Agung emphasized that these rules are an important part of the process. The rules, he said, must be established and approved according to specific provisions.
“Muhammadiyah election rules must be established a year before the Muktamar. Therefore, the rules will already be finalized, and the election can proceed,” Agung said.
Finally, Agung highlighted the Treatise of Universality’s close connection with Muhammadiyah’s internationalization agenda. The message, he said, represents an effort to strengthen Muhammadiyah’s contribution to global civilization. It enhance cadres’ capacity to engage at the international level and develop Muhammadiyah’s social enterprises in various countries.
“Basically, the Tanwir is being prepared as part of the series of events leading up to the Muktamar National Congress. Therefore, we hope all the agendas and materials discussed can be carried out as effectively as possible,” Agung concluded. (bhisma)
