MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA—Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an advanced technology that can assist in various human tasks, including Islamic propagation, according to Ahmad Ataka Awwalur Rizqi an Electrical Engineering teacher at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
“AI is a powerful technology if high-quality data are inputted. For instance, hadith GPT provides inaccurate data because it only gives a translation of hadith.,” said Ahmad at the April 2023 commencement at Amphitarium of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan on Tuesday (16/5).
Thus, one of the challenges of the AI use is regarding accurate data provision. “If the data is biased, the AI’s output will also be biased,” said Ahmad, who graduated from King’s College London, talking about ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI): Challenges and Opportunities for the Muslim Communities and Muslim Scholars.’
Meanwhile, AI can be utilized to perform da’wah. It can become a tool for disseminating information about Islam. “There is tremendous potential for AI to be utilized as a technological assistant,” said Ahmad.
Ahmad hoped that AI would be used wisely and bring benefits to many individuals. “Regardless of its pros and cons, let us hope that AI will bring goodness to people. It is crucial to employ AI intelligently as it seems human tools, just like a kitchen knife that can be used for both cooking and harm. AI should be utilized responsibly,” said Ahmad.
