MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, CAIRO – The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of Muhammadiyah arrived in Egypt on Saturday, January 27, to analyze the situation of Palestinian refugees in the country.
Their goal is to assess the needs of Palestinian refugees in Egypt and develop a plan for providing assistance. The team, led by Naibul Umam, have attempted to build networking with a variety of stakeholders to gain information about the Palestinian refugees in Egypt.
Umam told that the team faced a number of challenges in conducting their research. “It’s like climbing a mountain,” he said. “You have to be able to read all the maps, even if there are only three. And if you can’t find a path, you have to create your own.”
The team has already compiled a list of organizations and individuals who can provide assistance to Palestinian refugees in Egypt. However, Umam said that the team is also committed to listening to the voices of others, even those who previously are not in their list to meet during their mission.
“A friend of mine told me that if you want to help Palestine, be prepared to be patient,” Umam said. “The situation is not good right now, and your chances of success are only 10 to 20 percent.”
“For us, 10 or 20 percent is an opportunity,” Umam said. “It’s like being able to visit Egypt, a country with a rich history.”
The EMT will continue its field research in Egypt. The team’s findings will be used to develop a plan for providing assistance to Palestinian refugees in the country.
