MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah reaffirms its commitment to supporting Palestine through humanitarian aid and educational initiatives. This commitment was emphasized during a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia on March 17 at the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Jakarta.
Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni highlighted the movement’s long-standing dedication to humanitarian efforts, particularly in education. He introduced Muhammadiyah institutions, including universities, schools, orphanages, and healthcare centers across Indonesia. As part of its support for Palestine, Muhammadiyah has awarded full scholarships to 60 Palestinian students currently studying in Indonesia.
“This initiative is part of Muhammadiyah’s ongoing efforts to support education for the Palestinian people,” stated Syafiq.
Muhammadiyah has also collaborated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on various humanitarian programs. One ongoing initiative is a training program for women in the West Bank, conducted in partnership with an NGO, the Sahid Witness.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Shun stressed the importance of aid distribution through official Palestinian government channels. He emphasized that assistance should not be given directly to individual organizations or people but should be coordinated through the embassy or other authorized entities to ensure proper distribution.
Furthermore, Mahmoud Al Habbash, Advisor to the Palestinian President on Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations and the Minister of Justice of Palestine, expressed gratitude for Muhammadiyah’s continuous support. He emphasized the need for aid to be distributed fairly across all regions of Palestine, not just Gaza.
He also urged donors to work with government-approved institutions to ensure that aid reaches those in need effectively and transparently. The Palestinian government, he assured, is ready to collaborate with various organizations, including Muhammadiyah, through official channels to optimize the impact of humanitarian efforts.
The meeting reinforced Muhammadiyah dedication to helping Palestine through structured and transparent initiatives. Muhammadiyah hopes that all aid efforts will be managed efficiently to provide meaningful support to the Palestinian people.
