MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has been selected as the host for the 2024 International Student Summit (ISS), indicating Muhammadiyah success in fostering moderation.
“Muhammadiyah is an Islamic socio-religious organization known for its moderate character and its strong focus on education, health, and social services,” said Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development Prof. Bambang Setiaji at the Edutorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) on Monday, October 14.
He also emphasized that Muhammadiyah manages over 166 universities across Indonesia, including UMS, which is one of its outstanding higher education institutions.
“We are proud to welcome you to one of Muhammadiyah institutions, UMS, which is renowned for its contribution to quality education,” he expressed.
Prof. Bambang further hoped that ISS participants would gain new insights into Muhammadiyah educational system and develop a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture and society.
“I hope this ISS gives you the opportunity to learn more about the Muhammadiyah education system, as well as Indonesian culture and society,” he added.
According to Bambang, the ISS is expected to not only strengthen international relations through education but also introduce the values of moderation, progress, and humanity that are characteristic of Muhammadiyah.
In his closing remarks, Bambang thanked the participants and wished them a memorable stay in Indonesia.
“Thank you for coming. I hope you have a memorable experience here,” said Bambang.
The ISS is an initiative organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek). It is targeted at international students receiving KNB scholarships who are studying in Indonesia.
This year, UMS has been chosen by Kemendikbud Ristek as the host. The theme of ISS 2024 is “Javanese Rhapsody: Weaving Culture, Creativity, and Solidarity,” which showcases the harmonious blend of tradition and innovation within Javanese culture.
According to the Office of Collaboration and International Affairs of UMY, 178 students from 31 universities across Indonesia participate in ISS 2024.
