MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, METRO – Chairperson of Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman criticized that the true beauty and brilliance of Islam are often obscured by the actions of its followers.
He asserted that while Islam is a noble religion, many Muslims have failed to fully internalize its teachings.
“We often see Muslims engaging in corrupt practices, which is a contradiction to the teachings of Islam. If one is truly a Muslim, they should be a beacon of light and righteousness,” said dr. Agus at the 112th anniversary celebration of Muhammadiyah conducted by the Muhammadiyah Regency Board of Metro, Lampung, on Wednesday, October 16.
dr. Agus emphasized that this issue demands serious attention. He called for a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings beyond merely performing rituals.
Furthermore, he highlighted the disparity between the numerical strength of Muslims and its overall achievements. Citing a statement by former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, dr. Agus noted that a majority of successful entrepreneurs and wealthy individuals in Indonesia are non-Muslims. Conversely, a significant portion of the impoverished population is Muslims.
This disparity, according to dr. Agus, indicates a fundamental misunderstanding of Islamic teachings.
“A true Muslim should possess a strong work ethic and recognize that earning a livelihood is an act of worship,” he explained.
dr. Agus mentioned that Muhammadiyah was founded to enlighten Muslims and empower them to overcome challenges. He stressed that Muhammadiyah is a movement dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of Muslims, as well as humanity as a whole.
As Muhammadiyah celebrates its 112th anniversary, the organization remains committed to its founding principles and continues to strive for the betterment of universal humanity.
