MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – Students enrolled in a Muhammadiyah or ‘Aisyiyah university are part of a network of 173 Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah universities in Indonesia and Malaysia.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir mentioned that this movement has approximately 700,000 students in 173 Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah universities. The number makes up 10 percent of Indonesia’s total student population and belongs to this movement’s network.
Thus, the students are expected to broaden their horizons, expand their network, and enhance their understanding of Islam.
“Muhammadiyah students are not only skilled knowledgeable people but also devout people with noble characters,” said Haedar Nashir.
Haedar Nashir, a professor of sociology, believes that knowledge alone, without strong character, can lead to conflicts on Earth. Many wars and conflicts occur because people may be knowledgeable and technologically skilled but lack moral values.
Having both knowledge and good character leads to civility. Moreover, Haedar encouraged Muhammadiyah students to embrace genuine and virtuous values.
