MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TUNISIA – The Special Branch of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) in Tunisia successfully held its first ever Baitul Arqam on November 8-9, 2025, in Kairouan, Tunisia. The event marked a historic milestone for PCIM Tunisia, as it was the first time the program had ever been organized since the branch’s founding ten years ago.
Carrying the theme “Harmonizing Muhammadiyah’s Ideology and Intellectualism,” the event served as a strategic effort to build collective spirit, foster organizational awareness, strengthen the ideology of Islam Berkemajuan (Progressive Islam), and deepen the bonds among members, most of whom are Indonesian students currently studying in Tunisia.
Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, the Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Board’s Council for Cadre and Human Resources (MPKSDI), delivered a virtual lecture on Pedoman Hidup Islami Warga Muhammadiyah (Guidance for the Islamic Life of Muhammadiyah Members). He emphasized the importance of maintaining balance in all aspects of life.
“In the modern era, it’s crucial for Muhammadiyah cadres to keep a balance between spirituality, intellect, and social action,” Bachtiar said.
Meanwhile, Naufal Sholahuddin, Chairperson of PCIM Tunisia, expressed his appreciation for the successful organization of the inaugural Baitul Arqam. He highlighted the event as an important opportunity to strengthen the cadres’ commitment to Islam, Indonesia, and Muhammadiyah.
“As cadres, we must be ready and steadfast at all times,” he stated firmly, quoting K.H. Ahmad Dahlan’s famous words, “Live for Muhammadiyah, don’t make a living from Muhammadiyah.”
The organizing committee also expressed hope that the event would give rise to a new generation of Muhammadiyah cadres, individuals of strong character, integrity, and global outlook, ready to spread the values of Progressive Islam on the international level.
“This is not the end, but rather the beginning of a long journey for Muhammadiyah cadres in Tunisia to continue learning, contributing, and serving the people and the nation,” said the committee chairperson.
Throughout the two-day program, participants engaged in lectures, interactive discussions, reflections on Muhammadiyah values, and team-building activities. The event concluded with a cultural excursion to several historical sites in Sousse, renowned for its classic Islamic architecture, including the Ribat of Sousse, the Great Mosque of Sousse, and the city’s ancient seaside fortresses.
