MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – The Rector of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Salatiga Zakiyuddin Baidhawy highlighted Muhammadiyah significant role in shaping national policies to align with the country’s constitution and aspirations.
Zakiyuddin, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Central Java, emphasized that Muhammadiyah becomes a unifying power for the nation, promoting a healthy political discourse that fosters peace and civility.
“Muhammadiyah ideology is a belief system and a theory of struggle to implement Islamic teachings in the lives of the people through social-religious movements. It emphasizes that Muhammadiyah is not affiliated with any political power,” asserted Zakiyuddin in Surakarta on Friday, September 13.
Zakiyuddin emphasized Muhammadiyah commitment to independence while simultaneously fulfilling its critical function of upholding the principles of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar (enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong) to ensure a democratic and civilized political system.
Muhammadiyah, he explained, allows its members to exercise their right to vote according to their conscience, while also emphasizing their responsibilities as rational and critical citizens. This approach, he argued, is consistent with Muhammadiyah mission to serve the nation.
Zakiyuddin further encouraged Muhammadiyah members to actively participate in politics, carrying out their duties with responsibility and upholding noble character. He stressed that political activities should always be aligned with the principles of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar.
“Muhammadiyah collaborates with all parties based on virtue, avoiding harm, and striving to build a better, more advanced, democratic, and civilized nation,” said Zakiyuddin.
