EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Muhammadiyah Central Board’s Department of Tourism and Creative Economy (Muhammadiyah LPEK) successfully held a Fun Run and Walk at the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) campus on Sunday (25/10).
The event brought together members of the UMY academic community and the Muhammadiyah Walking Community (JAKIMU). It also featured a fundraising campaign and humanitarian donations for communities affected by disasters in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Muhadjir Effendy, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, attended and lent his support to the event. He expressed his enthusiasm and praised LPEK for initiating an innovative movement with a positive impact on humanitarian issues.
“This organization is still very young, yet its activities are already remarkable. Alhamdulillah, I have been able to accompany LPEK’s activities since last night. This morning, I also joined the fun run and ran nearly five kilometers,” he said.
Combining Fitness with Humanitarian Action
By combining physical activity with humanitarian and social concerns, Muhadjir said he hoped the initiative would inspire other members of Muhammadiyah to take action and help those in need.
“I hope we can raise enough funds to help our brothers and sisters affected by disasters, particularly in East Nusa Tenggara,” he said.
As an institution working in tourism and the creative economy, LPEK also received guidance from Muhadjir on its future direction. He emphasized that its programs should align with Muhammadiyah’s identity as an Islamic movement dedicated to dakwah and tajdid renewal.
“We hope LPEK will become more agile and productive, giving us an additional new engine for growth. With this, we hope to accelerate progress toward our targets for developing the third pillar, the economic sector, as we have only one year left before the Muhammadiyah Congress,” Muhadjir concluded.
