EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah) has expressed its deep condolences over the passing of Prof. Maman Abdurrahman, former chairperson of the Central Board of the Islamic Union (Persis) for the 2010–2015 term and the father of PP Muhammadiyah General Treasurer Hilman Latief, on Sunday (21/6).
President of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, conveyed his profound sorrow over the loss of a figure who was well known for maintaining close relationships with various Islamic organizations, including Muhammadiyah.
“He was very close to us (Muhammadiyah), both in terms of thought and activism. Long before Prof. Hilman became a member of PP Muhammadiyah, I frequently communicated, met, and exchanged ideas with him. Certainly, both Persis and Muhammadiyah feel a great sense of loss with the passing of such a prominent figure,” said Haedar.
According to Haedar the passing of Prof. Maman Abdurrahman represents a significant loss for the movement of Islamic da’wah and reform in Indonesia. Nevertheless, the future generations must continue to preserve the values of struggle and dedication that he left behind.
Words for the Late Scholar’s Family
Addressing Hilman Latief and the late scholar’s family, Haedar encouraged them to uphold and continue the spirit of service that Prof. Maman Abdurrahman instilled in advancing Islam and contributing to the nation.
“May his struggle continue through Prof. Hilman Latief and the family within Muhammadiyah. His children and family are one of many to carry through the struggle.”
On a personal note, Haedar remembered Prof. Maman as someone who was approachable and skilled at building relationships with people from different backgrounds. This openness earned him widespread respect, including in his interactions with Muhammadiyah.
“On behalf of PP Muhammadiyah, we extend our deepest condolences. May Allah grant him husnul khatimah, forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant patience and strength to the family he leaves behind,” Haedar concluded.
