MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA — The Muhammadiyah Institute for International Relations and Cooperation (LHKI) has issued statements in response to the results of the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 11, 2023.
The summit focused primarily on addressing the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and across Palestinian territories, including Al-Aqsa. In a press release signed by Imam Addaruqutni, the Chairman, and Yayah Khisbiyah, the Secretary of the LHKI, several key points were emphasized:
1. Expression of Appreciation for OIC and Arab League Initiatives
Muhammadiyah commends the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League for their initiatives in orchestrating the Joint Extraordinary Summit. Special recognition is accorded to the Saudi Arabian government, the esteemed host, for its judicious leadership and meticulous attention to the concerns of all participants.
2. Gratitude for Joint Resolutions
Muhammadiyah conveys its sincere gratitude that the summit resulted in a 31-point resolution, which signifies a joint agreement among leaders from the OIC and Arab League member states. The resolution encapsulates shared concerns, expressions of disappointment, and commitments to follow-up actions to resolve the conflict and achieve a harmonious resolution.
3. Urgency of Ceasefire and Humanitarian Assistance
The LHKI stresses the urgency of a ceasefire to facilitate the immediate distribution of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza. In response to this urgent situation, Muhammadiyah has disclosed a tangible contribution of IDR 45 billion to support these humanitarian efforts.
4. Support for Condemnation of Double Standards
Muhammadiyah affirms its support for the condemnation of double standards in the application of international law by nations supporting Israel. Such inconsistencies are potentially detrimental to the principles of multilateralism and the overarching global peace order.
5. Advocacy for Legal Action against Israel
The LHKI supports the agreement to swiftly initiate legal proceedings against the criminal acts committed by Israeli occupiers in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
6. Endorsement of Indonesia and Allies’ Joint Actions
Muhammadiyah welcomes and endorses Indonesia’s collaborative efforts alongside Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Nigeria. These international endeavors are aimed at halting the conflict in Gaza and initiating a political process towards a peaceful resolution. Muhammadiyah pledges its unwavering readiness to support these collaborative initiatives.
7. Commitment to Support the Indonesian Government
The LHKI formally declares its commitment to supporting the measures undertaken by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in fulfilling the historic responsibilities entrusted by the Joint Extraordinary Summit. Additionally, Muhammadiyah offers substantive contributions to diplomatic efforts aligned with OIC, Arab League, and UN resolutions, all in pursuit of realizing the “Two-State Solution.”
Through these measures, Muhammadiyah actively demonstrates its commitment to aiding the resolution of the Gaza crisis and advocating for peace in Palestine.
