EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, DEPOK – Nine students from Muhammadiyah elementary schools are representing Indonesia at the 23rd International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO), held in Depok, West Java, from Friday to Tuesday, (2–7/10).
The delegation consists of nine students competing in Mathematics and Science.
Six students competing in Science are Afiqah Rania Putri Meridianto and Muhammad Al-Fatih Idris Atmaputera from Muhammadiyah Elementary School 4 Surabaya; Ammar Syafiq Asyrofi Yusa from Muhammadiyah Elementary School Gunung Terang; Farla Shidqia Ghani from Muhammadiyah Elementary School Metro Pusat Lampung; Ghazwan Al Hussary Pasaribu from Muhammadiyah Elementary School Condongcatur; and lastly Tsurayya Ayoedya Nurmagupita From Muhammadiyah Elementary School Birrul Walidain Kudus.
The Mathematics delegation consists of Attharizz Mibras Dirgham Andioko from Muhammadiyah Elementary School Metro Pusat Lampung; Luthfan maulana from Muhammadiyah Elementary School 10 Banjarmasin; and Salsabila Putri Sari from Muhammadiyah Elementary School Sapen, Yogyakarta.
The nine students are aiming for strong results and medals at the international competition, which brings together 404 participants from 23 countries, including the United States, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
Didik Suhardi, Chairperson of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah’s Council for Primary, Secondary, and Nonformal Education, expressed optimism about the delegation and hoped each student would deliver their best performance, bringing pride to Indonesia and Muhammadiyah on the international stage.
“I hope the IMSO will bring encouraging achievements,” Didik said.
Schools Set Their Sights on Medals
The optimism is also shared by the students’ schools. Ihwan, Principal of Muhammadiyah Elementary School Metro Pusat, said he was confident that both of his school’s representatives would win medals.
“We hope Dirgham and Farla can bring home medals for our beloved Muhammadiyah elementary school,” Ihwan said.
Naila Milaturrahma, a teacher at Muhammadiyah Elementary School Gunung Terang, similarly hopes her school’s representative will gain valuable experience while also securing a medal.
“We will use the results to prepare for next year. Hopefully, we will have another opportunity to participate,” Naila said. (Alam)
