MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, CIANJUR – Per 23 December 2022, Muhammadiyah has founded 615 of 1000 planned emergency shelters in five areas affected by the Cianjur earthquake.
They were 79 shelters in Ciherang Rawa Jaya, 3 shelters in Ciheran Putri, 63 shelters in Cariu, 337 shelters in Cugenang, and 133 shelters in Cieundeur.
The shelter establishment was also supported by P.T. Transjakarta and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
P.T. Transjakarta and the Ministry of Education and Culture contributed to build 40 shelters (20 in Cieundeur and 20 in Cariu) and 30 shelters in Cariu respectively.
“The earthquake-affected people dwelt in tents by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the National Zakat Board, or they stayed in their own indecent tent. Thus, the emergency shelters are beneficial for them,” Chair of the Service Center Nata Hendriyanti.
Some people have moved to the emergency shelters. Nata informed the construction included 67 shelters, 2 prototype shelters, 1 service center, and 1 emergency kitchen.
“The total target is 160 emergency shelters, and 402 people of 98 families became the beneficiaries,” Nata said.
Besides, the Direct Relief Indonesia (DRI) provided 250 emergency shelters, and now they are under construction.
Muhammadiyah also begins designing a house prototype. Each house may cost 15 million rupiahs.
The specifications of the house are 3.66 x 4.88 meters with materials for the frame made of mild steel, spandex roof and top wall of GRC boards. Meanwhile, the lower wall is made of brick..
The house has two rooms, namely one living room and one bedroom, equipped with two windows, two doors, and electrical installation consisting of three light points and and socket point.
The emergency shelters built by Muhammadiyah were made of tarpaulin as the main material with a frame made of wood or bamboo. As emergency shelters, ideally the survivors don’t stay in it for long and move to the temporary house.
In reality, at a cost of 15 million Rupiah per house, it is certainly not a small amount of money needed to build hundreds of shelters for the survivors of the Cianjur earthquake. It takes a helping hand from many parties to lighten their burden.
