MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA—Indonesia as a pluralistic nation is prone to split as what happened during the 2019 general elections.
Nevertheless, President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir mentioned that Indonesia has a great spiritual asset to unite and develop.
Haedar said that the asset is noble values based on Pancasila, religion, and culture.
“The essential values teach us to have peaceful and meaningful life and appreciate other. The virtues should be implemented in all life aspects such as economy, politics, and culture to live the life of the nation,” Haedar said.
Haedar, the Professor of Sociology, said that religion is the great power for Indonesia, particularly when achieving the independence. However, recent wrong Islamic practices may not be capitalized so that Islam seems a source of issues.
“Positive energy of religion is huger than bias of religious practices,” Haedar said at the Media Gathering at the Muhammadiyah Office of Yogyakarta on Thursday (29/12).
Pancasila as the basis of noble values should be applied and become a guidance of this state and this nation. Speaking of the Pancasila implementation, Haedar encourage all people to eradicate corruption.
“Corruption eradication should be all out and become the priority. We may not take any side. We wish the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) could be firm and just, and uphold laws and justice,” Haedar said.
Meanwhile, this nation should be optimistic to cope with future challenges.
“We may not leave our opportunities to rise after the pandemic and recover our national potential, namely the unity which enables us to survive during the disasters and political conflicts,” Haedar said.
Furthermore, natural resources of Indonesia are the other potential to take care of. Some group of people may no longer use the natural resources indiscriminately.
