MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Pemuda Muhammadiyah strongly condemned the attack by the Israeli Military on Jenin, West Bank, Palestine, which left 10 civilians killed and dozens injured.
The Chairman of the Maritime Affairs of the Pemuda Muhammadiyah, Dedi Irawan, said that the Israeli barbarity was a crime against humanity.
“Israel’s atrocities against the Palestinian people have been going on for decades and are getting more and more brutal. We should unite to stop the attacks for the sake of humanity and peace,” said Dedi on Wednesday (1/2).
According to Dedi, Pemuda Muhammadiyah will always stand with the Palestinian people. The stance is in accordance with the constitution of Indonesia. Indeed, the Palestinian-Israeli issues will be discussed at the Congress (Muktamar) of Pemuda Muhammadiyah, so efforts and actions to help Palestine can be more systematic.
Defending the Palestinian people is a collective action of Muhammadiyah. For instance, Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) and other foreign organizations conducted a forum to discuss programs to assist Palestine.
“The MDMC recommended one-coordination programs, so they become more efficient and useful,” said Budi Setiawan, Chair of the MDMC on a different occasion.
Budi expected that future advocacy for Palestine could focus on culture and other areas, so the struggle for the Palestinian people is not about waiting for the war to happen.
“The Palestinian conflict has occurred for long and no one knows when it’s over. Therefore, we have to have new effective means of helping Palestine that have good strong relations with Indonesia,” Budi mentioned.
