EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURABAYA – Performing qurban is not merely a ritual obligation for Muslims. It is also an expression of gratitude to Allah for the countless blessings He has bestowed upon humanity.
Speaking during the Kajian Inspirasi Subuh at At-Taqwa Pogot mosque on Wednesday (20/5), Muhammad Arifin, Chairperson of the Community Da’wah Department of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, explained that Surah Al-Kawthar teaches Muslims to preserve their awareness of Allah’s blessings through prayer and sacrifice.
“Allah has granted us immense blessings, and we should never neglect them,” Arifin said.
According to him, blessings such as wealth and time are also forms of divine tests. Many people, he noted, become distracted by material prosperity and gradually lose their sense of gratitude toward God.
Therefore, dedicating time for worship and offering qurban serve as spiritual provisions for the Day of Judgement, when every individual will be questioned about how they used the blessings entrusted to them by Allah.
Worship with a Social Dimension
Arifin emphasized that qurban is not only an act of devotion to God. It also carries another meaning, that is strengthening social solidarity among human beings.
“The commands of Allah are extraordinary. They build a relationship with God while also nurturing relationships with fellow human beings,” he stated.
He further explained that qurban reflects love and care for others. Although Islam is often described as a religion revealed from heaven, its teachings, when practiced sincerely, produce tangible benefits for society.
Moreover, the benefits of qurban are not limited to Muslims alone. Arifin stressed that qurban meat may also be distributed to non-Muslims as part of Islam’s broader humanitarian spirit.
