MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MAGELANG – Muhammadiyah has 200 hospitals and hundreds of clinics and health services. This movement has indeed chosen health services as a path of da’wah since the era of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan.
Chairman of Muhammadiyah for the Public Health, Social Welfare, and Disaster Resilience dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman said that Dahlan’s comprehension of Surah Al-Ma’un underlay da’wa through a hospital establishment. The surah highlighted someone who denies the final judgment. They do not encourage the feeding of the poor.
K.H. Ahmad Dahlan teaches to recite, memorize, understand, and practice Al-Qur’an in the context of the era. “If people recite Al-Qur’an without understanding the meaning, they may not comprehend the true meaning,” said dr. Agus in the inauguration ceremony of the Clinic of PKU Muhammadiyah Grabag, Magelang, on Sunday (29/1).
Al-Qur’an should be practiced. Thus, even though only a few people came to Muhammadiyah to preach, this movement can establish many institutions (AUM).
“The spirit of Muhammadiyah is on Al-Qur’an implementation,” said dr. Agus.
At first, people teased the establishment of a Muhammadiyah clinic, but now Muhammadiyah has become the greatest Islamic movement having good health centers.
“The clinic establishment was successful after two and half years. It began operating on 15 February 1923,” said dr. Agus.
The clinic was called Penolong Kesengsaraan Oemoem (PKO). The name referred to the speech of Dahlan that the clinic served everyone regardless of their religion, ethnicity, race, and class because Islam is rahmatan lil alamin (mercy to all blessings).
