MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — The Muhammadiyah Council for Social Welfare of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Yogyakarta launched the Ibnu Ummi Maktum Inclusive Quran Learning Center at Masjid Haiban on August 25. The center aims to provide accessible Quran education for people with disabilities.
In line with the slogan of “Muhammadiyah for All,” the center offers specialized programs adjusted to the needs of individuals with various disabilities.
“This Quran learning center is open to all members of the community. We offer three main programs: regular, sign language, and Braille,” said Zainal Arifin, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Social Welfare of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Yogyakarta.
The initiative emerged due to a recognition of the limited access to Quran education for people with disabilities.
The director of the Inclusive Quran Learning Center Fandi Akhmad explained, “The establishment of this center addresses the need for individuals with disabilities to learn the Quran in a way that is accessible to them.”
The center is not exclusive to Muhammadiyah members but welcomes people from all backgrounds.
“Anyone can join and learn at the center on Sundays,” added Fandi.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Yogyakarta Arif Jamali Muis praised the launch of the Inclusive Quran Learning Center. He highlighted the importance of creating accessible mosques and emphasized the center’s alignment with the spirit of Al-Ma’un, which promotes compassion and inclusivity.
During the launch, the Muhammadiyah Disability Association (Hidimu) also received Muhammadiyah identity cards.
For information, the event was attended by the Vice Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Yogyakarta Nur Ahmad Ghojali and Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management of Yogyakarta Jefree Farhana.
With the establishment of this inclusive Quran learning center, Muhammadiyah is expanding its reach and ensuring that the teachings of the Quran are accessible to all, regardless of their abilities.
