MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – The Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) encouraged Muhammadiyah members to take inspiration from the leadership of Ahmad Dahlan.
Budi emphasized that leadership is vital, both within Muhammadiyah and in society as a whole. He explained that it is part of the divine purpose for which humans were created by Allah.
“Leadership is crucial, and it has to come with good character,” said Budi at the Muhammadiyah Day organized by the Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Surakarta on Sunday, September 29.
He encouraged Muhammadiyah members to learn leadership from Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of Muhammadiyah, who exemplified strong morals and intelligence—both essential qualities for overcoming challenges.
Budi pointed out how Dahlan’s intelligence helped promote the Muhammadiyah mission, particularly in Solo. Although the organization was initially restricted to Yogyakarta, its influence still reached Solo.
“In Solo, Kiai Dahlan did not name the organization ‘Muhammadiyah’; instead, he referred to it as SATV (Sidiq, Amanah, Tabligh, Vatanah). This indicates his cleverness,” said Budi.
Budi hoped that the principles of leadership would not only be applied within Muhammadiyah but also in broader contexts, including social issues, national unity, and global humanitarian efforts.
He also stressed the importance of preparing future leaders. It is vita to prevent the emergence of premature leaders as they can lead to decision-making that benefits only a select few at the expense of the many.
