Muhammadiyah School Signs MoUs with Taiwanese Educational Institutions to Expand Global Opportunities

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta formed international partnerships with two Taiwanese educational institutions. Through the “Introduction to Taiwan Higher Education: Academic Visits to Taiwan Universities and Schools” program, which took place from October 20-26, 2024, the school has opened new doors for its students.

This initiative was made possible through a collaboration between the Muhammadiyah Council for Elementary, Secondary, and Non-formal Education and the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO). Herynugroho, the principal of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta, emphasized the significance of this partnership in providing a global education that aligns with the demands of the modern world.

He believed that educational institutions should continuously develop academically and globally to meet the challenges of our time. He hoped that the partnerships would strengthen the school’s international network and enhance the school’s reputation, ultimately benefiting all members of the school community.

As a result of these partnerships, SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU) and Cheng Yuan High School. LHU expressed its willingness to offer scholarships to the school graduates and facilitate campus visits for students. Meanwhile, the partnership with Cheng Yuan High School will focus on teacher and student exchange programs, as well as Mandarin language training.

Marini Amalia Octavianti, the school’s public relations officer, explained that these partnerships are designed to provide Muhi graduates with opportunities to pursue higher education in Taiwan. Additionally, the Mandarin language training and student exchange programs will broaden students’ cultural horizons and enhance their language skills.

It’s worth noting that SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta has been at the forefront of international education initiatives. Since 2021, the school has partnered with ACT Education Solutions Limited (ACT) International to offer the Global Assessment Certificate (GAC) program. This program equips the students with qualifications recognized by over 100 universities worldwide.

Marini said that the ultimate goal of these programs is to enrich students’ learning experiences and prepare them for the globalized world.
