MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, LAMONGAN – Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Syafiq A. Mughni delivered the keynote speech at the opening of the Ramadan preaching, organized by the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board (PWM) of East Java. The event took place on Saturday, March 8, at Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA).
Syafiq expressed his appreciation for the event, particularly the launch of 19 books authored by Muhammadiyah members from East Java.
“The launch of these books is something to be grateful for, as it demonstrates a strong culture of literacy aimed at benefiting society and the nation,” said Syafiq.
Syafiq emphasized that Muhammadiyah remains committed to building Indonesia as a baldatun thayyibatun wa rabbun ghafur ([Yours is] a good land and a forgiving Lord). He stressed that if given the opportunity, Muslims should actively contribute to shaping Indonesia into a just and thriving country.
Syafiq described that baldah thayyibah is a “state of becoming,” a continuous journey of progress and improvement, rather than a “state of being,” which implies stagnation.
“The question we must ask is whether Indonesia is progressing toward this vision. If so, we are on the right path to baldah thayyibah. If not, we risk heading toward baldah sayyiah,” explained Syafiq.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the PWM of East Java dr. Sukadono elaborated on the theme of the preaching, “Baldah Thayyibah: Reflection for the Nation.” He outlined five key conditions for achieving a prosperous country: sincere worship, moral leadership, responsible governance, a balance between worldly and spiritual life, and sincere repentance from poor leadership.
“Without these five conditions, achieving baldah thayyibah will be difficult,” stated dr. Sukadono.
