MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The vast coverage of services provided by Muhammadiyah in Indonesia, when compared to the European continent, covers an impressive 76.71% of Europe’s total land area.
This comparison was presented by Ahmad Muttaqin, Secretary of The Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (Majelis Diktilitbang PP Muhammadiyah), during the Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) public lecture for new students at Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD) for the 2025 academic year on Friday (10/10).
Addressing the new students, Muttaqin encouraged them to take pride in living in a large and influential nation, urging them to be confident and not develop a sense of inferiority that could lead to defeatism in various aspects of life.
The professor of Islamic Studies at Sunan Kalijaga Islamic State University elaborated Muhammadiyah’s extensive role, with its services stretching from the westernmost to the easternmost parts of Indonesia (from Sabang to Merauke).
Structurally, Muhammadiyah operates through 475 district-level branches, 3,947 subbranches, and 14,670 grassroots branches. In the education sector, it runs 20,000 kindergartens and early childhood centers, over 440 Islamic boarding schools, 126 hospitals and more than 350 clinics, 5,346 schools, and 163 universities.
“We should be grateful and proud, this is part of tahadduts bi ni’mah (expressing gratitude for God’s blessings). All of you have made the right choice,” he said.
Focusing on Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA), Ahmad Muttaqin noted that 19 PTMAs have now achieved Excellent Institutional Accreditation, a testament to their academic quality.
Congratulations to those of you who have joined Ahmad Dahlan University, a university of proven excellence that will lead you to success,” he emphasized.
In addition, students enrolled at PTMAs automatically join a nationwide academic network of 668,950 Muhammadiyah students across Indonesia, as well as one overseas campus: University Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM). (Bintang Adrian)
